  • Do we know for sure (subtle pun there) that the Zune store won't let you re-download music bought from the MSN Music Store? I'm just saying that we don't know what Microsoft's plans are for the Zune store.

  • I love MS Natural Keyboards, but I haven't been able to get over the looks of the 4000. I need a keyboard to replace the Apple one on my new iMac. The Natural Keyboard has been great at relieving pain in my shoulders from scrunching my arms together to type.

  • If you were to factor in inflation (and I'm not sure that you _should_), then those peaks would be even higher!

Evolution of Mac Pricing or Surprise! Apple Cares!
  • You guys can't be using iTunes much. Just count your ignorant blessings. I'm running version 7 on an iMac Core Duo with an iPod 80GB. Album art downloaded from Apple won't appear on the iPod. Changes to iPod settings in iTunes will not save to my iPod; my Mac cannot find the iPod although it syncs music just fine. iTunes cannot automatically identify a gapless album. In version 6, I could keep my Shuffle in the source list. Why can't I do that in 7? My advice: Wait until 7.0.1 before installing iTunes.

  • You forgot the most important thing to me: ripping. I can rip CD's to iTunes to listen to on my iPod. Why can't I legally rip my DVD's to iTunes to watch on iTV (or my iPod)? Well... I know why....

  • Poor Wal-Mart. I'm so scared for them. This article is similar to "Wal-Mart and Apple Battle for Turf" in the August 31 Business Week. • It's good that Apple released the new iMacs and Mac Minis today. I think it will ease expectations of Sept. 12. It has already eased mine. I expect only to hear about the iPod/iTunes system next week -- plus the iAaron!

  • James, Thanks for the clarification and the head start! I think most of us can agree that the Zune launch is looking more and more like a still birth. I've never seen a Zune article that mentions how horrible the user interface is going to be. (Thanks for mentioning it, Beeb!) Based on the instructions in the user manual, the U.I. is likely to be difficult, require too many actions, and be annoying to use. If you think the hardware is so-so, just wait for wonders of the Microsoft U.I. "Houston, We have a problem." Indeed!

  • Zune is NOT a rebranded or "repacked" product. Microsoft designed the product (or set the requirements), and Toshiba manufactures it. Apple does the same thing with the iPod. Please try to prove me wrong by showing me the Toshiba product with the same hardware. Here, I'll give you a head start: http://www.gigabeat.com/

  • I would take this report with a huge grain of salt. The vast majority of undergrads have never had a job. How would they know what constitutes an attractive employer? This reminds me of the crowds of undergrads at my Ivy League school who desperately wanted a job at Arthur Anderson back in the early 90's. Those who did get in, got overworked, and burned out. Then, the company folded.

  • Radio's worst enemy is itself -- not pre-recorded music in any format. Beside too many commercials, the music programming is insipidly lowest-common denominator. All of this is caused by the structurally unsound economics of the industry. Radio has lost many listeners over the last two decades and will continue to do so. The industry is in a slow, death spiral of its own making.

Driving with iPod: Threat to Radio or Satellite?
  • The official name for this kind of crash is "kernel panic" or "kp." There is a description of it here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227 My iMac Core Duo had a few kp's from the beta of Adobe Flash 9.0. Apple support had me run the disk utility and repair permissions. Also, my motherboard was defective!
